SCOPE crossing new boundaries
October 2012 – Sarasota County, FL
Tweet“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” – African proverb.
In 2005, Syd Adler became the first recipient in Sarasota County of the Boundary Crosser Leadership Award. Inspired by a book called Boundary Crossers by the Kellogg Leadership Studies Project, SCOPE created the award to recognize individuals who build community by connecting people across boundary lines that traditionally divide community.
Adler frequently blurred the lines between art and community. One of his living boundary crossing legacies is the Hermitage Artist Retreat, a 5-week retreat for artist’s on Manasota Key. In exchange for the opportunity, the artist-in-residence develops a project that gives back to the children, adults and /or seniors in the community.
Each year since then, SCOPE has honored a Sarasota County resident as a Boundary Crosser.
