Recommendations from the "Redevelopment & Infill" Study fall into three areas:
- Educate the community, developers and businesses.
- Create the environment/set the stage for redevelopment and infill vision planning in the community.
- Develop the tools and partnerships
(i.e. toolkit, handbook, and public/private/community partnerships)
- Promote those recommendations that provide the principles on which planning should be based
- Encourage and actively collaborate in the creation of comprehensive redevelopment and infill visions and plans.
The Task Force identified Recommendation #1 as top priority in its Initial Action Plan. Increased community awareness, understanding, and participation are needed in order for successful redevelopment and infill to occur. Successful community education will empower the others to participate. The task force determined that this recommendation should be grassroots-driven by the community rather than driven by government.
Task Force Co-Chairs Anne Merrill and Larry Calder met with elected officials in all municipalities to discuss the initial strategy. The Task Force developed a PowerPoint presentation and a discussion group “toolkit” for local groups to use. Articles appeared in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, and newsletters of NACA, CONA and the GulfCoast Builder's Exchange.
Presentations about the study were made to numerous neighborhood and community groups including:
- Manasota Regional Neighborhood Summit (2005)
- Bayou Oaks Neighborhood Association
- Central/Cocoanut Neighborhood Association

- Coalition of City Neighborhood Associations (CCNA)
